In the past months, our development team has been rebuilding the search engine from the ground up. The goal of the new search engine was to make a platform for quick iterations, to improve search result quality, and to create the ability to add many new types of results quickly.

We are ready to let you try some of the new features.

What’s new?

Filter results by designer, icon-set or family

Iconfinder used to only search by tags, but that’s now changing. We now include designer name, icon set name, and icon family name beside the tags. What this means is that you can search for your favorite designer + a search term and get icons by that designer only. Here are a few examples: “laura reen folder”, “picons house”, “icojam cat”.

Searching for “dog” and including a designer name “iconify” will filter results to icons from that designer.

If you know the name of an icon set or family you like, you can quickly find icons in it by adding the name to the query. For example, the “Streamline” icon family is very popular for UI design. It’s now possible to search across all icons in the Streamline family using “streamline arrow”.

Including a name from a popular icon family for example“Leto” and a keyword “folder” limits results to folder icons from that family.

Automatic fixing of misspellings

Misspellings happen and we now automatically correct it. A search for “ipohne” becomes “iphone”. “twiter” becomes “twitter” etc.

What’s next?

  • Style search. It will be possible to search in styles using for example “outline car” to only get car icons that are outline style.
  • License search. You will be able to type in the license name together with the keyword. For example, “book creative commons”.
  • Negative keywords. Let’s say you are looking for computer mouse icons. You could search for “mouse -animal”, to filter out the cute little hairy versions. Or if you want camera icons, but no Instagram logos, you can search for “camera -instagram”.
  • We will be adding icon sets, designers and icon families to search results as well.

Join the beta program

If you are interested in joining our beta test of the new search, please go to https://www.iconfinder.com/beta-program/ to opt-in.

When you are searching after opting in, there will be a link to a feedback form. You will also have an option to return to the regular search at any time.

We are excited to take this to the next level. As we are making the first baby steps, your feedback in the beta test would mean a lot.

Happy icon-finding 🔍
